Andrew Shulman, Commanding officer of Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 146, right, talks to workers from the Bahrain International Airport Rescue and Firefighting Service during a visit aboard the aircraft carrier USS Nimitz (CVN 68) in the Arabian Gulf Sep. 13. The visit served as a thank you to the workers that served as first responders to an emergency landing of an U.S. Navy aircraft at the Bahrain International Airport Aug. 12. Nimitz is deployed in the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations in support of Operation Inherent Resolve. While in this region, the ship and strike group are conducting maritime security operations to reassure allies and partners, preserve freedom of navigation, and maintain the free flow of commerce.
