説明The Thesprotians were an early Greek tribe who settled in Epiros about 4000 years ago (2000 BC). They believed that rivers and lakes were the entrances to the underworld for the spirits after the death. Nekromandeio was built 400 years BC near a river and 4 lakes. Pilgims from far distances came here to get in touch with their lost family members. Visitors stayed here for about a week. After washing rituals they had to eat special food and take part in other rituals like throwing stones. The next days they got hardly any food and had to stay in toal darkness and silence. Finally they had to cross a dark labyrinth, a sheep was sacryfied and the visitor came in the main sacret basement crypt. The crypt contained a kind of crane, used to makevthe figures or the deceased appear to the pilgrims. The pilgrim could ask questions to the figure about the future. But they were not alowed to tell anything about what they had seen during their stay. We needed some fantasy to imagine how the pilgrims would have felt during their stay in Nekromanteion and how much fun the priests must have had by fooling their visitors and making them hallucinate.
