| 説明 | Many mountainous areas have white snow-covered slopes during much of the year. Sometimes, patches of pinkish coloration are present. Pink snow is caused by the presence of cryophilic chlorophyte algae. "Cryophilic" means "ice loving". Chlorophytes are green algae. The pinkish-reddish coloration is from a carotenoid pigment in the algal cells.Location: Upper Meadow, near the base of Reading Peak, Lassen Volcano National Park, northeastern California, USA-----------------------See info. at:en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Watermelon_snow |
