| 説明 | This superb advert appeared in the London Illustrated News on 25 February, 1950. It may bring back memories to those who, like me, were apprenticed to the company at their Stag Lane, Edgware factory in the early 1950s, and who remember instructors such as Pongo Hughes. My thanks go to John Weedy for permission to use the picture. His collection of pages from the Illustrated London News is at www.iln.org.uk/ .This is the text:"Night maintenance work on one of the four Ghost engines which power the de Havilland Comet jet airliner. The Ghost has a basic advantage of efficiency through the direct entry of the air into the eye of the compressor – as is clear in this picture – and offers unprecedented standards in simplicity, robustness, accessibility and protection from fire and ice."Robert Cutts, bob@winton.me.uk |
