| 説明 | According to popular Han-dynasty belief, jade pieces worn by the deceased could prevent physical decay. In addition to the jade suit, small jade carvings were often put inside the ears, nose, mouth, or anus, over the eyes or chest, and in the hands. Pigs, a token associated with abundance, were among the most favored animals during the Han dynasty. Besides ceramic pid models for burial, pig-shaped jade rods were often put in the hands of the deceased as an indicator of their substantial property.Photographed at the "Tomb Treasures" exhibit at the Asian Art Museum in San Francisco, California. |
