| 説明 | Seen in the foyer of the Grand Lisboa Hotel and Casino in Macau was this mammoth tusk carving of the Great Wall. It apparently took 10 craftsmen 6 years to execute. This is just a section of the work!My guide book called the Grand Lisboa, 'delightfully tacky' and I think that is a great description. For example, in the lobby, a number of valuable Chinese art works in jade, diamond and mammoth ivory are on display but even these glass encased treasures are over the top, too big and too numerous. Making them appear superficial ... even tacky. I think this display of wealth is distasteful when desperate gamblers on the floors above are losing their shirts... middle class sensibilities perhaps? |
