| 説明 | On the subject of a potential extension of the Island Line into Shanklin town centre, the subject of electrification arises. The idea to de-electrify the entire line and run custom-built diesel multiple units is a bad idea, and a step in the wrong direction. I've had a thought whilst researching upon the Parry People Mover ideology: if one built a limited-height (owing to that tunnel under Ryde) Class 139-esque vehicle, said trains could run down from Ryde Pier Head all the way into Shanklin town centre and maybe on to the attraction o' the Old Village. The Island Line current would keep its third rail electrification, and the Shanklin town centre extension would not require OHLE--owing to the flywheel traction that makes the PPM idea contextualisable.Bene: I am aware that it's not terribly detailed. |
