The hand on the postcard, sent to Ireland is french, concerning a death in the (irish side of the) family there. There is nothing to indidcate "Elmside " on the house. Multicoloured glass patchwork window were in vogue in the very early 1890s. The bay in these semi-detached villas is very large indeed, and denoted a very comfortable area. Harold Pinter grew up in a house with the same style windows, albeit in E5, and a bit smaller..and probably divided up by the 1930s. |
