| 説明 | Snapshot of four young Italian women, standing outside at an unidentified location around World War II. Photograph given to or collected by U.S. Army parachutist Albert C. Lewis of Wilson, N.C., while he was stationed in Italy during World War II. Lewis was serving in Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 509th Parachute Infantry Battalion. It is believed he had gotten to know the women. Caption on the back of the photograph in Italian reads: “Coi affete tue [indecipherable word] e arrivedie, Gr[spelling?], Elle, [indecipherable name], and [indecipherable name],” or “With your affections and goodbyes, Gr[spelling?], Elle, [indecipherable name], and [indecipherable name]” (undated).
