| 説明 | It's difficult to believe that Oscar Wilde accepted an invitation to speak in Columbus. He was invited to do so by Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Kelley. Wilde gave a lecture on "Decorative Art" at Comstock's Opera House, which was located at northwest corner of Rich and High streets. (Mark Twain spoke there on 2/9/1885)The next day's Ohio State Journal ran an advertisement for Halm, Bellows & Co. parlor goods. Given the editorial writing & "lace curtains", I think old Mr. Bellows, Sr. must have been in attendance for Wilde's lecture. "Critics Disagree with Oscar Wilde. But all parties agree that Halm, Bellows &Co. are showing the choicest, handsomest and cheapest line of lace curtains to be found in the city." John H. Mohler and his partners took over the business which had been founded in 1890 and renamed it McAlllister Mohler Company. Later in 1951 it became Morehouse Fashion and then in 1963 it was renamed to 'The Fashion.' |
