説明 | Usher’s Island is where this bike shop is located the name of the area comes from John Ussher who leased this former island from the corporation in 1597.Last year the Royal Institute of the Architects of Ireland (RIAI) described Usher’s Island as the ugliest place in Dublin city. However there is plenty going on at Ushers Island beside the James Joyce bridge. There is an item of street art by Luke Fallon and of course the bike shop in my photograph. Joyce's short story "The Dead" is set in Number 15, the house facing the bridge on the south side of the Liffey. Ushers Island was the name of a competitor in the 1994 Grand National at Aintree, falling at the third fence. The film The Dead, adapted from Joyce's story, was filmed by John Huston at Usher's Island. In the story The Dead, the sisters Kate and Julia Morkan host their annual dance at their "dark gaunt house on Usher's Island."Actually, it is an ugly area. If you can suggest an even uglier area I will try my best to photograph it. |
