| 説明 | Quartzose sandstone in the Pennsylvanian of Ohio, USA.The Pottsville Group is a Pennsylvanian-aged cyclothemic succession in eastern Ohio that contains nonmarine shales, marine shales, siltstones, sandstones, coals, marine limestones, and chert ("flint"). The lower Pottsville dates to the late Early Pennsylvanian. The upper part dates to the early Middle Pennsylvanian. The Lower-Middle Pennsylvanian boundary is apparently somewhere near the Boggs Member (?).Shown above is a ridgetop outcrop of erosion-resistant quartzose sandstone in the lower Pottsville Group. According to Lamborn (1954), this is the Massillon Sandstone. In parts of Ohio, the unit is called the Dundee Sandstone.Stratigraphy: Massillon Sandstone, lower Pottsville Group, upper Lower PennsylvanianLocality: ridgetop above Mohawk Dam's eastern abutment, northwest of the town of Nellie, western Coshocton County, eastern Ohio, USA (~vicinity of 40° 21’ 16.37” North latitude, ~82° 05’ 07.36” West longitude)------------------Reference cited:Lamborn (1954) - Geology of Coshocton County.
