| 説明 | Xcaret Eco Park on the Riviera Maya, Mexico. Our fourth visit to Xcaret ... and just as much fun as ever. The Aviary at Xcaret is the result of many years of research. Natural habitats were created to allow the development of more than 1,500 Mexican birds, some of them in danger of extinction. The Aviary is relatively new ... it was just being built when we were here two years ago.The motmots or Momotidae are a family of birds in the order coraciiformes, which also includes the kingfishers, bee-eaters and rollers. All extant motmots are restricted to woodland or forests in the Neotropics, and the largest are in Central America. They have a colourful plumage and a relatively heavy bill. All except the tody motmot have relatively long tails that in some species have a distinctive racket-like tip.The International Ornithologists' Union (IOU) recognises 14 species of motmots in six genera. This list does not include hybrid species, extinct prehistoric species, or putative species not yet accepted by the IOU. The motmots here were in the genus Momotus or Eumomota. |
