説明Every day I am discovering a new block of student accommodation under construction.Today I got a bit of a surprise when I saw a new street beside the 3Arena at the Point in Dublin Docklands. Another thing that surprised and disappointed me was that the three bronze bears are gone from outside the 3Arena.I must have not being paying attention over the last year or two because when I got home and conducted some research I discovered that there was a plan for a ‘Point Village’ student accommodation complex to be operated by CRM Students, the biggest operator of student accommodation in Britain, where it has 14,000 beds. The plan involves demolishing old warehousing and building two residential blocks of up to eight storeys in height beside the Gibson Hotel. The development, which incorporates land owned by CIE, would be the biggest off-campus student residence in the country. The student accommodation complex will benefit from a new street currently under construction between North Wall Quay and Sheriff Street. In addition a planned pedestrianised bridge linking North Wall Quay and Sir John Rogerson Quay in the south docklands would also improve accessibility. The plan includes new traffic lights, footpaths and car and bicycle parking. As you can see from my photographs the street has been created and the traffic lights are being installed. In 2015 Dublin City Council announced plans for the new bridge to connect the old London and North Western Railway Company station on North Wall Quay to Forbes Street on Sir John Rogerson’s Quay on the south of the river. The Victorian train station was the planned location of a proposed Dart Underground station for the north docks but the underground project had been suspended and maybe even cancelled so the bridge project has been suspended for about two years but may never go ahead.Every day I am discovering a new block of student accommodation under construction.Today I got a bit of a surprise when I saw a new street [North Wall Avenue] beside the 3Arena at the Point in Dublin Docklands. It is expected that the bears will be auctioned off.
