| 説明 | Friderich Wilhelm Bessel 1784-1846. German Astonomer, Surveyor of the Earth's surface and Mathematician who lived and worked in Koenigsberg between 1810 and 1846. He was appointed director of the observatory there at the age of 26 and is famous for the Bessel Function where Bessel generalised an observation of Bernoulli. He was also enrolled as a non-Russian member of the Petersburg Academy of Science , no doubt through his contact with the German Friedrich Georg Wilhelm Struve who was director of the Russian observatory in Dorpat (present day Tartu, Estonia)Captured by Frau SG whilst I was either tram spotting or engaged in other less cerebral activities no doubt. This plaque is located close to the former observatory in Königsberg between North and South stations in General Galitzky street.Russian wikipedia page here |
