説明 | U.S. Senator Claire McCaskill today met with leadership from several Missouri rural hospitals and health care providers to discuss the impact a repeal of the Affordable Care Act without a replacement would have on the rural communities they serve. "I’ve always said the Affordable Care Act isn’t perfect, and I’ve worked to improve it—especially to ensure our rural hospitals continue to have the resources they need to serve their communities, for whom they’re often the sole health care provider,” said McCaskill. “What’s apparent to me is that Republicans have no plan to replace the law, which will lead to chaos for rural hospitals and communities across Missouri.”In attendance for today’s meeting were representatives from Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine, Citizens Memorial Hospital of Bolivar, the Missouri Department of Health and Social Services, the Missouri Rural Health Association, and Missouri Ozarks Community Health.A repeal of the Affordable Care Act would likely drive up costs of uncompensated care and close many rural hospitals, including those in Missouri.McCaskill has continually worked to protect rural hospitals and the communities they serve in Missouri. Last year, McCaskill introduced the Resident Physician Shortage Reduction Act to loosen caps on the number of Medicare-backed graduate medical training slots and increase the number of Medicare-backed medical residents. Additionally, McCaskill introduced the bipartisan Hospital Payment Fairness Act that would repeal a provision of the Affordable Care Act that is causing states, including Missouri, to subsidize high wages at hospitals through Medicare reimbursement rates. |
