| 説明 | Happy Republic Day!The text above and below the images are verse from Prem Dhawan's Æ Mērē Pyārē Watan (O My Beloved Country), written for Bimal Roy's Kābuliwālā, based on Tagore's story. Roughly paraphrased, the verse means:The loveliest of dawns is yours,And the most colourful dusk too.The fact that this is actually the Kābuliwālā singing of his yearning for his homeland, doesn't prevent me from echoing this sentiments :) I've written half the text in the Dēvanāgarī script of Hindī and half of it in the Nastaʿlīq of Urdu, just to remind ourselves of the absurdity of the divisions we set up for ourselves. The two lines which look so different when written down are part of the same common language, and the same song. Maybe the other differences we see among ourselves are as superficial, and all we need to do is hear the music we share in common. |
