| 説明 | This outcrop is part of the famous Cincinnatian Series of the tristate area of Ohio-Kentucky-Indiana. Rocks in the Cincinnatian were deposited in relatively shallow marine facies during the Late Ordovician. The Cincinnatian succession is mostly interbedded limestones and shales. Most of the limestones are event beds (= tempestites), deposited during ancient storms.The rocks seen here are in the Waynesville Formation, which represents a deeper-water, calmer-water Cincinnatian environment. The Waynesville Formation is about 70% shale and 30% fossiliferous limestone. Observed fossils include bryozoans, brachiopods, trilobites, bivalves, gastropods, and nautiloids.Stratigraphy: Waynesville Formation, Richmondian Stage, upper Cincinnatian Series, upper Upper OrdovicianLocality: cut along eastern side of Norfolk Southern Railway tracks, east of the Great Miami River & west of Miamisburg Mound Park, western side of the town of Miamisburg, southern Montgomery County, southwestern Ohio, USA (39˚ 37' 54.86" North latitude, 84˚ 17' 26.31" West longitude) |
