| 説明 | Introduced cool-season annual tufted C3 grass; stems are erect and grow to 100 cm tall. Leaves are slightly bluish-green and hairless; ligules are membranes. Flowerheads are dense contracted panicles 2-9 cm long. Spikelets are in groups of 7 (sometimes 6), with 1 fertile spikelet surrounded by reduced spikelets or club-shaped sterile branches; glumes enclose the florets. Flowers in spring. A native of the Mediterranean, it grows on clays in low-lying areas and along drains; most common on the Plains and western margin of the Slopes. A common weed of crops, drains and other wet areas. Under grazing, it can provide a good quantity of palatable forage when young; older plants are coarse and stemmy. Most productive in wetter years when it can form extensive stands. |
