| 説明 | Native warm-season annual or short-lived perennial tufted C4 grass; stems are to 100 cm tall. Leaves are to 60 cm long and minutely rough to touch. Flowerheads are a primary axis of racemes; 10-50 cm long and with more than 30 erect to slightly spreading branches (racemes). Spikelets are variously coloured, 5-14-flowered; lemmas are 1.8-6 mm long and hairy near their base. Flowers in summer and autumn after rain or flooding. Usually found in shallow ephemeral or permanent water such as swamp margins and drains; also in damp areas. More common on the Plains and western edge of the Slopes. Native biodiversity. A productive species that provides moderate to high forage that stays green well after water has receded. Very palatable to cattle, less so to sheep. Has a root association with nitrogen fixing bacteria, which can supply nitrogen to the plants. Has good recovery from grazing, but will decline under continuous heavy grazing. |
