説明The first Star Wars spinoff film is in theaters and for some time, I didn’t have as much hype about it because I wasn’t 100% sold that Star Wars movies that are other than the main saga coming to theaters. But after seeing the trailers and getting the promise of Vader, I got my excitement up, not as much as Force Awakens, but it was still high. So I got to see the movie at noon today so now I’m ready to give my thoughts on the film? Now will this movie become the first generally loved Star Wars film, or will it be a pointless spinoff? And don’t worry, there won’t be any spoilers, so let’s check it out!Good: Alright let’s start with the end. I won’t spoil anything but the third act of this movie is up there as one of my favorite Star Wars movie moments. What went down in that third act really made me feel the promise that was given saying it was a straight up war film, the action felt real, it was emotional and it really hit you. It wasn’t just some random explosions and messiness like the Transformers movies. The action in this movie felt like a rough war film, it felt like what I should’ve been feeling when I was playing the new Star Wars Battlefront. This movie has probably one of the best written stories in any Star Wars film because it never drags on and it makes a total effective use of every second of it’s screen time, all the way up to it’s last second! My next favorite thing about this movie is the characters. Now usually with franchise movies like Star Wars and the MCU, the filmmakers like to take their time for their characters to grow and get you to truly care for them, but this movie knocks it all out in one film which surprised me! I loved every character in this movie, but none of them really stood out to me like K-2SO. He is by far in my top 3 or 4 favorite Star Wars characters ever. He was probably the most developed character in the movie and he was funny. Now we wasn’t like fart jokes funny like prequel stuff, it was true Star Wars humor that we love. No joke, right when I got back from the movie I remembered there was a K-2SO Black Series figure on sale at the grocery store down the street from my house, and even though my style of figure isn’t the six inch figures, I immediately ran over there and bought it because I loved him THAT much! Now although the new characters were great, the old characters… Oooooooh man I’ll get to it in my spoiler talk!!! All I’m going to say is that people are saying that some of these appearances were completely unnecessary and were like the cameos from Ghostbusters this year, but I completely disagree. Some of these characters are so important to the Empire and the Rebellion and they absolutely had to be in this movie or it wouldn’t feel right, I’ll also leave it at this… Vader… VADER!!!! Speaking of Vader, let’s talk about the presence of the empire in this movie. You’ll never realise how low stakes the empire are in the original trilogy until you see this movie, they are powerful, they are terrifying, and it’s was incredible.Bad: First off, this movie should’ve been called Star Wars: Rogue One, not Rogue One a Star Wars Story, it’s just a dumb title, but that has nothing to do with the film. Now although this was an amazing movie, like a third of this movie felt like a fan film, a good fan film, but still a fan film. There was no crawl, which absolutely sucked. I understand why they made that change to change it to make it stand out from the saga films but I feel like this movie needed a crawl the most because there were some moments in this movie where even I, a huuuuge Star Wars fan who keeps up to date on everything that’s cannon, was confused at some parts! Another thing that made it fan filmy was the score. Michael Giacchino’s score was just flat out bad. It didn’t sound like a Star Wars movie, there are places where it sounds like Star Wars music, but like, it’s the wrong notes! When the title comes up, it plays like this weird knockoff Star Wars theme and there’s this scene that shows a Star Destroyer and it plays a song that sound like it was the imperial march theme but all the notes are out of order! My last complaint is that the first like, fifteen minutes of this movie felt pretty choppy and I wasn’t feeling it, but once the first action sequence starts, I was IN, baby!Overall, Rogue One was the story I never thought I’d like to see, I really want to pop on A New Hope now and watch it because I think this movie really enhances the original trilogy. Now I still have to see it a few more times to settle on a real score, but for now, I’ll give Rogue One: A Star Wars Story a 9/10. If you have seen the movie, please feel free to leave your thoughts in the comments below, but if you post any spoilers, I will delete your comment so please be respectful!
