説明 | ”Cymru Am Bydd” Welcome To WalesNorth Wales is home to the popular local port of Holyhead, with its fantastic maritime museum. As you approach Holyhead by sea, your first image will be of towering sea cliffs, some 600 millions years old. Natural beauty abounds on the island of Anglesey, from its 125-mile coastline to its unspoiled fields. The northern most part of Wales, Anglesey was the last stronghold of Druids during the Roman invasion of the region. During the 13th century, the area served as a refuge for Welsh Princess who resisted Edward I campaign, although the English would eventually prevail. But make no mistake: the Welsh are Celtic and proud of it. Despite the fact that Henry VIII virtually eliminated their native tongue, Welsh translations of the Bible would ensure the language's survival. Don't worry, though: signs are bilingual, and everyone speaks English. See set comments for ”Holyhead Overview” |
