| 説明 | I had to get a picture of the sauce packets that come with a (cheap) meal in England. Leaving aside the somewhat odd fact that they give you a pair of scissors to cut them with, we have the ubiquitous ketchup of course, as well as "English" (spicy) mustard, tartar, mayo, and something called "salad cream". This is a salad dressing which lists "eggs and mustard" in its ingredients, and seems to be a really popular salad topping which does not exist at all in the USA. The packet labeled "Heinz" in this picture is something called "Brown Sauce". No, not BBQ sauce, not steak sauce, Brown Sauce. Again, neither I nor anyone I know from the US has ever heard of brown sauce, but we found it at every pubbish place we ate. At one point later in the trip we caught this snippet of conversation on the radio between a DJ and a female caller:DJ: OK, to win the grand prize, you have to answer one more trivia question. Are you ready?Caller: I'm ready!DJ: OK, what do you use to spice up your food?Caller: Brown sauce?DJ: Or....Caller: ....err...or...brown sauce?DJ: Correct!I'm not sure what I could add to that. |
