| 説明 | Looking quite out of place, this splended piece of modernism was I guess the headquarters of the lime works which once occupied the site. To the right is the entrace to the derelict Lime sidings. The contemporary use seemed to be for haulage and storage. Built for the Blue Lias Lime and Cement works of H. Parry and Sons Ltd., who utilised the same geological beds which crop up in Dorset.Henry Parry was born in Crewe in 1845; by the time of the 1881 census, aged 35, he was employing 35 men in his cement works here. At the time of the 1901 census, Henry Parry (together with his wife Betsy) was a lime manufacturer in West Derby, in east Liverpool. (perhaps only visiting, not manufacturing there). It seems though that the running of the firm had passed to 3 of his large brood of children...Henry Jr, Managing director, b1873, John ,Secretary, b 1874 and George b1875, Engineer. Another son, Charles Woodall Parry was a civil engineer in nearby Gainsborough. However, Henry Perry died in 1916 back in Lincolnshire, where he lived at Breeze Mount, Kirton Lindsey. His wife died in 1922. |
