| 説明 | I met Dudi (18) on the cement pavings at the Bogor train station. His shirt tattered and holding his little broomstick, he sat there waiting for the economy train to run the Bogor-Jakarta line. His skin darkened by the sun, Dudi does not have a family and has been an orphan since he was ten years old. He lives on the streets and stays over night at the train station. "the station superintendant never bothers me" he said in a soft tone.To earn a living, he, like Bari sweeps the linoleum floor of the commuter train. "I get more money when it rains" he expains that the floor gets easily flooded by rain water and passanger tends to give more. "I am lucky if I can get $5."He was very proud when he told me that he had worked in the tourist destination beach of Sengigi, Lombok. For a while, he worked as a porter and a shop attendent at a tattoo parlor. He made $10 a day back then - but now, he has to live with whatever he earns. He doesn't regret the past although he wishes to have a better future. With a big smile he said that "I want to be a mountain climber." looking back in his days as a porter. "I've been in and out of trains for eight years by now," adding to it that he actually has a half-sister in jakarta - but hesistated to ask for help since she is married. |
