Bult between 1924 and 1926 and opened on the occasion of the third Great German Radio Exhibition. Nicknamed der lange Lulatsch "the lanky lad", the tower is one of the best-known points of interest in Berlin and it remains a protected monument.The tower is built as one large steel framework construction, similar to the Eiffel Tower in Paris. The 150 meter (492ft) high and approximately 600 metric ton radio tower was originally planned as a transmitting tower, but later included a restaurant at 52 meter (171ft), and observation deck at 125 meter (410ft). |
