| 説明 | St Mary, Stoke by Nayland, Suffolk.A reproduction of John Constable's full size sketch, Stoke by Nayland, which was painted between 1835 and 1837, oil on canvas. Undoubtedly this large scale sketch would have formed the basis for a finished painting of the same size. Constable died in 1837 before the final work could be attempted. The origins of the composition were probably laid in 1810 when Constable was commissioned to paint an altar piece for Nayland church and is known to have gone sketching at nearby Stoke by Nayland. The same view of Stoke church was restored in 2007 when 60 tall poplar trees were felled and replaced by a community planting of 400 low growing trees. All this was made possible by close co-operation between The Tendring Hall Estate, Dedham Vale Project Team and the local community woodland steering group, funded by a sustainable development fund grant.John Constable, English 1776 - 1837Stoke by Naylandoil on canvas 126 by 169 cmMr and Mrs W.W.
