| 説明 | Morphett Vale. The first “town” to develop south of the town of Adelaide in the new colony of South Australia was Morphett Vale in the centre of the wheat plains. It emerged as a town around 1842. Its status as a town was confirmed early by the building of a flour mill, church, and hotel. Not much of early Morphett Vale remains today! In 1851 the Court House and other government services came to the township. They still remain in good condition. The first Roman Catholic Church in SA was opened at Morphett Vale in January 1846. One of the early prominent citizens of Morphett Vale was Christian Teichelmann who arrived in SA in 1838 as a Lutheran pastor. He established a mission school for Aborigines and published the main grammar and dictionary of the Kaurna language in 1840. |
