Território de banhistas de vanguarda, o Nove, como é conhecido na intimidade, ganhou fama nos anos 80, quando, recém-voltado do exílio, Fernando Gabeira desembarcou na areia de tanguinha. Foi lá também que o topless, que nunca pegou de verdade no Rio, teve suas precursoras.
