| 説明 | This trough is a well-developed channel formed by dissolution of travertine speleothem in Luray Caverns, Virginia, USA. The travertine originally formed by precipitation of calcium carbonate crystals from cave water. Later cave waters that were slightly acidic (from carbonic acid - H2CO3) partially dissolved the travertine. The water flowed in a discrete channel and formed a cave stream.Luray Caverns is developed in structurally-tilted dolostones of the Beekmantown Dolomite (Lower Ordovician).Locality: Luray Caverns, Luray, central Page County, northern Virginia, USA |
