| 説明 | North side of the Baldwin family plot at Green Lawn Cemetery in Columbus, Ohio, in the United States.John Baldwin Neil (July 28, 1842 – October 6, 1902) was the son of a wealthy Columbus businessman, and attended Kentucky Military Institute. When the Civil War broke out, Neil enlisted in the 2nd Ohio Volunteer Infantry and saw action at Bull Run. He was promoted to lieutenant and served under General William Tecumseh Sherman. He was wounded at Shiloh, saw action at Vicksburg and Chattanooga, and was promoted to lieutenant colonel. He served as personal secretary to Ohio Governors Rutherford B. Hayes and Edward Follansbee Noyes, and after Hayes became President he appointed Neil land agent in Salt Lake City.Neil was appointed Governor of Idaho Territory in July 1880.Neil was removed governor in March 1883 by President Chester A. Arthur. Neil moved to central Idaho and became a mine owner. He returned to Ohio late in life and died of throat cancer. |
