| 説明 | Explanation about the first Japanese satellite ''Osumi''''Osumi'' (おおすみ) was the first Japanese satellite launched with ''Lambda rocket L-4S-5'' from Uchinoura Space Center, which led by ''Space and Aviation laboratory'' under the University of Tokyo on 11 February, 1970. The name ''Osumi'' was derived from Osumi Peninsula (大隅半島) the center located in. 15 years from horizontal launching of ''Pencil rocket'', this success led Japan to the 4th country that had made and launched a satellite by its own technology (the formers were Soviet, America, France in order). It was a rare case that the development was not for military, but purely academic research of university. Osumi had orbited around the earth for 33 years, and ended up burning down into aerosphere on 2 August, 2002.Osumi's spec: length 1m, maximum diameter 48cm, weight 24kg(The original explanation in Japanese owes to the Univ Tokyo) |
