| 説明 | Beautiful, sunny WINDY day on our first trip down CA-1 since it reopened. Lots of coastal buckwheat blooming.en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Garrapata_State_Park-- which now features this photo. The rocks that form the coast here are the same granites that form the Monterey Peninsula, and look much like, and are chemically similar to, the white Sierra Nevada granites. They used to be thought to be a faulted-off sliver of that batholith, carried north by the San Andreas family of faults. Current thinking (I believe) is that they are a separate intrusion, but I don't know the details. Comments welcome! |
