William Russell, commanding officer of Avenger-class mine countermeasures ship USS Chief (MCM 14) and Mineman 2nd Class Joseph Larsen demonstrate the ship’s sonar capabilities to Lt. Cdr. Akihiko Morita during Mine Countermeasure Exercise (MCMEX) 2JA 2018. MCMEX 2JA 2018 is an annual bilateral exercise held between the U.S. Navy, Japan Maritime Self Defense Force (JMSDF) and this year the Indian Navy to strengthen interoperability and increase proficiencies in mine countermeasure operations.
