| 説明 | One of the most beautiful settings for a lake is the one where Convict Lake presents itself. It seems to flow out of a junction of two peaks, Laurel Mountain and Bloody Mountain (perhaps named for the same reason at the lake). The lake was named for a bloody incident. Twenty inmates of the Nevada State Prison in Carson, NV broke free. Somehow they made it over 100 miles southwest to this lake. A posse caught up with them there and a gunfight ensued. Men were killed on both sides of the fight. Maybe not coincidentally, Convict Creek flows into the lake. This incident seems to out of place at a serene spot like this, but perhaps it was preordained as the former name for the body of water was Lake Diablo (Devil in Spanish).Still, despite all the foreboding history, I wished I had a canoe with me to put out onto the mountain lake of such beauty. |
