説明 | Possibly mudcracked dolostone in the Ordovician of Kentucky, USA. (bedding plane view)The Cumberland Formation of Kentucky is an Upper Ordovician unit composed of dolomudstones and dolosiltstones (= fine-grained dolomite sediments - CaMg(CO3)2 - calcium magnesium carbonate). The brown coloration is iron oxide staining from oxidized pyrite. Subtle features consistent with mudcracks are present on this specimen - they are somewhat obscured by staining.Stratigraphy: Cumberland Formation, Upper OrdovicianLocality: roadcut on the northern side of Route 90, just west of Burkesville, central Cumberland County, southern Kentucky, USA (36° 47’ 51.17” North latitude, 85° 23’ 10.62” West longitude) |
