| 説明 | Motorists on the E19, one of the busiest motorways in Holland, can see how professional these pros are on this huge hoarding, attached to the company's premises. The incorrect insertion of an apostrophe is common enough in countries where English is the first language. In this case, however, we could take into consideration that in Dutch, pro's is the regular plural of pro, so that it can be interpreted as an instance of Dinglish. The hotchpotch of Dutch and English is sometimes called Dinglish, not to be confused with Denglish or Denglisch, the kind of English which Germans may speak or write.Note the capital P in ComputerPlan®. It is an increasingly common phenomenon. The origin lies in URLs, which do not allow for spaces. So the company's name has been derived from an URL. But what is wrong with applying normal spelling rules when you are not restricted by URLs? What do orthography pundits make of these capitals derived fom URLs?No end in sight should it catch on and become a trend. We might call our newborn children ElizaBeth, or FredeRick, and London might lose its huge chunk of the tourist trade if it doesn't restyle itself as LonDon in time. New York might regret its useless space too late before the city council under relentless pressure of its hoteliers will finally submit to becoming a more trendy NewYork. |
