| 説明 | Speckled wood butterfly. There are two major variants of the Speckled wood, Pararge aegeria ssp. aegeria (the nominate subspecies) which is found throughout South Western Europe and North Africa and was first defined by Linnaeus in 1758 and Pararge aegeria ssp. tircis whose range includes Northern and Central Europe, Asia Minor, Syria, Russia, and Central Asia and was first defined in 1852 by Godart. The range of the two subspecies does overlap. There are two other additional subspecies; Pararge aegeria ssp. oblita found only in Scotland and the surrounding islands and Pararge aegeria ssp. insula only found on the Isle of Scilly. This one is Pararge aegeria ssp. tircis (the only subspecies found in England) and is most likely to be a female though I can't be 100% positive. |
