| 説明 | William Both was an entrepreneur in Northbrook. He built this store which is located near the present REMAX real estate office. (corner of Hwy #41 and Glastonbury Rd). Mr. Both also was the caretaker at the Slave Lake powerhouse which generated electricity for the Ore Chimney Mine on the Harlowe Road.William Both was the first Postmaster of North Brook. The post office name was changed from Kaladar to North Brook in 1890. The post office was located in the store as well as the first telephone switchboard for James Vogen Telephone (around 1917). Living quarters for the family were at the north part of the building (left in this photo) and storage was at the back (right in this photo). Notice the store sold White Rose Gas - you can barely see the gas pump on the front porch.Mr. Both sold the store to Mrs. Mack who became the first Postmistress in Northbrook. Mrs. Mack sold the store to Amos and Beatrice Lloyd who later sold the store to Gladys Atherton for 'Glady's Cup and Kettle' restaurant.Part of the Ellery Thompson CollectionNote: All CDHS Flickr content is available for the public use (non-commercial) providing our Rights Statement is followed:pioneer.mazinaw.on.ca/flickr_statement.php |
