説明 | The Sequoia is the biggest SUV Toyota currently makes. Built exclusively in Indiana (USA), it comes only in LHD and is only sold in parts of South America (Chile and Bolivia, specifically), all of North America, most of Central America and the bulk of the Middle East. The Sequoia name is about 16 years old and marked Toyota's entry into North America's mainstream full-sized SUV market (the already existing Land Cruiser having been more of a premium offering). It was designed to take on the likes of the Ford Expedition and Chevy Tahoe directly and is built on the same chassis as the Toyota Tundra. The Sequoia has only been moderately successful as of late. I often pause when I see one and try to get a shot precisely because they're not that easy to catch: Toyota sold only about 11,800 in 2014 and 12,580 in 2015. This doesn't compare favorably with the numbers for the GM full-sized SUVs the Sequoia is meant to be competing with: 2015 saw GM move over 88,000 Tahoes alone, plus an additional 42,000 Yukons, 21,000 Escalades AND over 96,000 Suburban/Yukon XL/Escalade ESV models. Ford managed to move 41,000 Expeditions (plus just under 12,000 Navigators). The Sequoia is almost an exotic in its class segment relative to its fast-selling peers.Things weren't always this way: at its peak in 2002, 70,000 Sequoias were sold. Each year since has seen a decrease in Sequoia sales; Toyota hasn't sold more than 20,000 Sequoias since 2008. |
