| 説明 | Statue of Uma-Mahesvara, made about 1300 AD in Nepal. On display at the Cleveland Museum of Art in Cleveland, Ohio. The statue is of gilt bronze, with semiprecious stones.Mahesvara is the rare, 18-armed, benign form of Shiva. He sports the third eye of wisdom in his forehead, and a moon and a skull in his hair. His consort Uma (also known as Parvati) perches on his knee. Both are seated in a pose of relaxation, and their hands indicate discourse. This work of Hindu devotion is in the Buddhist style, because in Nepal artisans who did Buddhist art also worked on Hindu art. |
