説明 | Adult Triceratops prorsus skull on display at the Museum of the Rockies in Bozeman, Montana. This fossil was discovered in 2007 in Garfield County, Montana. As juveniles, Triceratops skull bones were not knit together. The faces and frills were both short, and the eyebrow horns curved backward toward the frill. Subadult skulls were not only larger, but the bones finally fused, the face and frill lengthened, and the horns began pointing forward.Triceratops lived between 68 and 66 million years ago. The earlier species, T. horridus, was slightly smaller than the larger, later T. prorsus. T. prorsus also had MUCH large nose horns. Triceratops is a certatopsian -- four-legged herbivores with beaked mouths and frills. They evolved from bipedal animals, with Triceratops being the largest and last to evolve. The first Triceratops was found near Denver, Colorado, in 1887. |
