| 説明 | This robber fly is a bee mimic. Looking like a bee protects the predator from other predators. Perhaps they also can sneak up better on prey but then all of the attacks of robber flies on prey that I have seen looked like a high speed Kamikaze attack.The victim here is a lady bug. You can see one membranous wing poking out to the right. The orange and black elytra are covers that protect the delicate membranous wings. They may also have some function in flight serving as rudders or perhaps adding lift. |
