| 説明 | Bergen Belsen.Shortly after the camp was liberated in 1945 a cross was raised here by the ex-prisoners, as a memorial to all those who died. The cross has been replaced several times since that initial simple memorial was raised, but it remains in the same spot. (An interesting conclusion is that although Belsen was horrific for the Jews, and I would never deny that, we must never forget that it was hell on earth for many others too.)Between 1943 and 1945, an estimated 50,000 European civilians died in the concentration camp. Towards the end of the war it was used as a place to send ill prisoners from other concentration camps.
