ShookRemark: Two Camas Prairie Railroad trestles located in Lapwai Canyon, Lewis County, Idaho, are visible in this postcard image. This section is referred to as the second subdivision of the Camas Prairie Railroad line. The trestles are located between Caldesac, Idaho, and Reubens, Idaho. This image was taken facing northeast, north of Tunnel No. 1. The trestle in the lower portion of the photograph stands today [2016] and spans over Lapwai Creek and present day U.S. Route 95, southeast of Caldesac, Idaho. The approximate geographic coordinates of Tunnel No. 5 are 46° 18' 35" North 116° 35' 12" West. The track laid through this canyon is considered one of the major engineering feats of North American railroads. Seven tunnels are located in the canyon, including horseshoe shaped tunnels (Tunnel Nos. 1 and 5) that turn back on themselves so that trains could continue their climb or descent within the tunnel itself.Information Source:Google Earth.Riegger, Hal. 1986.
