| 説明 | The #Army and Hawaiian Electric broke ground yesterday on a new power plant that will strengthen Oahu's electric grid, make it more reliable, and improve the integration of renewable energy resources, such as solar and wind power. The 50 megawatt (MW) plant will be constructed on approximately eight acres of land at Schofield Barracks that the Army is leasing to Hawaiian Electric. The Honolulu District was proud to serve as the Real Estate agent on behalf of the Army and work with all of our partners! The plant will run on a mixture of biofuels and conventional fuels and is expected to be operational by spring 2018. Attending the ceremony were Honolulu DEP CDR MAJ Tom Piazze; District DPM Steve Cayetano; U.S. Sen. Brian Schatz; U.S. Army Hawaii Garrison CDR, COL Steve Dawson; Hawaii Gov. David Ige; the HON Katherine Hammack, assistant secretary of the Army for installations, energy and environment; Alan Oshima, president and CEO of Hawaiian Electric Co.; U.S. Sen. Mazie Hirono; U.S. Rep. Tulsi Gabbard; 25th ID CDR MG Christopher Cavoli; and Federal Chief Sustainability Officer Christine Harada. Kahu Kordell Kekoa performed the blessing.
