| 説明 | Picking tea leaves is women’s work. The tea trees are regularly pruned to maximize leaf production and keep the leaves within easy reach. The leaves are plucked every seven to 14 days.James Taylor (1835-1892) introduced tea plantations to British Ceylon (now Sri Lanka) in 1867 after learning the basics of tea growing in India the previous year. Scottish grocer Thomas Lipton (1848-1931) visited Taylor in British Ceylon in 1890. Lipton purchased his own tea estates there so he could control quality and costs in order to sell a consistent tea experience at an affordable price. In 1893 he established the Thomas J Lipton Co. in Hoboken, New Jersey, USA, to package and market tea using the advertising slogan “Direct from the tea gardens to the teapot.” |
