説明Carte de visite.Studio of Riisfeldt & Co., Artist Photographers, The Royal Arcade Photo. Palace of Art, 492 and 496 George Street, Sydney. Opposite Central Police Station. Awarded first prizes at the Sydney and Melbourne International Exhibitions, 1879 and 1880.Found in a junk shop in Darlinghurst, Sydney. There seems to be some confusion over the correct spelling of the photographer Emil Riisfeldt's name. Close examination of the typography of his various reverses show the i's to be distinctly separate letters, and not a ü as interpreted by some cataloguers. Contemporary newspaper advertisements also bear this out.11 November 1882: "NOTICE. Mr. Riisfeldt has the pleasure to announce to his friends and the general public that he has commenced business at his new premises in the Royal Arcade, Photo. Palace of Art. Portraits of the very best description are daily executed in the new Studio, which is the largest and best fitted in the Australian colonies. Mr. RIISFELDT invites an inspection of his new premises, where many choice specimens of photography may be seen. E. RIISFELDT and CO., Royal Arcade Photo. Palace of Art, 492 and 496, George-street, opposite the Central Police Court." [Trove, 6th entry].26 February 1883: "Burglars in the Royal Arcade. The premises of Mr. Riisfeldt, photographer, of the Royal Arcade, were burglariously entered some time last night or early this morning. When Mr. Riisfoldt arrived this morning he found much of the contents scattered about three or four of the rooms. Among other articles molested were a number of valuable lenses, which the burglars did not seem to know the value of, otherwise they might have stolen them. All that Mr. Riisfeldt has lost is a new suit of clothes. It is thought that the burglars wished to break into the jewellery shops adjoining, but in this they were unsuccessful. There is no clue as to who the thieves are. The entry was made by way of the roofs of adjoining premises." [Trove].
