| 説明 | Bescot Yard seen from Bescot Stadium Station, near Walsall (the station is on the Sandwell side of the borough border).Bescot Yard is a railway yard in Bescot, a suburb of Walsall in the West Midlands, operated by DB Schenker Rail (UK). The yard is the major freight yard of the region, handling all of the rail freight movements and most of the railfreight traffic around the West Midlands.Bescot is on the Walsall Line between Birmingham New Street and Walsall, part of the former Grand Junction Railway, opened in 1837. It was built to handle the coal and industrial traffic associated with the West Midlands.Bescot TMD is to the north-west of the yard. This entire complex of track is clearly visible from the northern end of the M6 and M5 motorway junction.After closure of the 1950s developed hump shunting yard, freight since the 2008 credit crunch have declined significantly, and the associated Bescot TMD now carries no allocation of locomotives. DB Schenker services workings are still the mainstay of operations in the area, Direct Rail Services nuclear flask trains pass once or twice a week, and Freightliner Group Intermodal and Automotive trains also pass through. Regular Freightliner Coal trains also run around on the up goods on their way to Rugeley Power Station.The yard can be viewed in operation from Bescot Stadium railway station, served by London Midland.These views from the station footbridge.The station is close to the M6 and the River Tame, as well as a large railway freight sidings.Bescot Stadium railway station serves the Bescot area of Walsall in the West Midlands of England. (The station is located in the borough of Sandwell, although it can only be reached from within the borough of Walsall.) The station, and all trains serving it are operated by London Midland.The station was opened as Bescot Bridge in 1837 by the Grand Junction Railway but was later renamed Bescot.It was renamed in Bescot Stadium in 1990 in order to serve Bescot Stadium, the newly built home of Walsall Football Club.The station was re-opened on 11 September 2007 after a short period where it was closed for refurbishment. Whilst closed, no services called at the station, but trains continued to pass through.Bescot Stadium station is on the Walsall Line between Birmingham New Street and Walsall. The typical Monday-Saturday daytime service sees two trains per hour in each direction between Walsall and Birmingham New Street that are operated by Class 323 electric trains. These mostly continue onwards to Wolverhampton via the Stour Valley Line.This service is reduced to one train per hour in the evenings and on Sundays (when they start/terminate at New Street). There are a small number of early morning and late evening trains on weekdays are operated by Class 170 diesel trains and extend past Walsall to either Hednesford or Rugeley Trent Valley.The station footbridge offers views of Bescot Yard, and its freight movements. Bescot TMD is adjacent to the station.Access to the station is via Bescot Crescent (where there is a car park) and then a footpath which passes underneath the M6 motorway and over the River Tame, then an overbridge.Towards Lidl (left) and the M6 (right). |
