説明Constructed inside a former roller skating rink, the "Maj" was Ann Arbor's leading movie palace until the Michigan opened in 1928. Declared unsafe and condemned in 1942, it stood empty until it was demolished in 1948. In 1955 the Maynard Street parking structure was built on its site. Ray Dolph's funeral home was built in 1891 by Ross Granger as a ballroom and dance academy. It was also Granger's residence. In the 1890s and the early years of the 20th century, the annual Freshman Banquet was held there -- a rite that U-M sophomores felt obligated to prevent freshmen from attending. Beginning in 1953, the building housed the U-M TV center for over ten years. It is now the popular Scorekeeper's Sportsgrill and Pub.The film "Betrayal," made in 1929, starred Emil Jannings and Esther Ralston, and a very young and then-unknown actor named Gary Cooper, who did not rate a marquee mention.Ross Granger, pictured in his advt. in the 1903 Ann Arbor High School OMEGA:www.flickr.com/photos/70251312@N00/7081147943/Freshmen of 1909, being tortured on their way to the annual Freshman Banquet at Granger's:www.flickr.com/photos/70251312@N00/2396799937/in/photostr...
